Themed parties excite kids more than ever before. Today, TV and tablets are king and all the advertising in between that overloads kids, it’s no wonder when they want to celebrate by bringing those characters to life. Whether the birthday celebration is inspired by a hit movie, TV show, favorite apps or games, just having a central idea that you can base a birthday party around makes everything much easier on your part. If you’re not sure where to start when thinking of a theme here are 10 party themes for kids that will definitely get your wheels turning:

App Games:

Minecraft, Plants vs. Zombies, Clash of Clans, Angry Birds, Subway Surfer or even an Emoji party could blow your kids away. Consider throwing a birthday party for your child on the games they play on Mom’s phone or the family tablet. Choosing your kids go-to-game that they choose throughout the year ensures a happy camper no matter how big or small the party or budget!

Mad Scientist:

Looking for something that does not have to do with the TV and tablet black hole that has taken over your child? Mad scientist parties can enthrall even the least science enthused kids. A sure to-be show stopper would be this awesome experiment you can incorporate into the party. After the kids have all munched away on a bag of chips teach them a lesson in sick science!

Explain the science with this info here

After the kids have learned about polymers and molecules, one of the parents can hot glue these pin backs to their bags of chips (now mini take home favors) and they can wear them home!

Lego:

Not only are Lego movies and TV shows extremely popular right now, Lego bricks are great for gifts and they are so iconic that they can be incorporated into a theme very easily. From Lego decorated juice boxes to a “best Lego creation” contest for a special prize, the ideas are pretty endless and effortless. You can find chocolate molds for Lego men online. I’ve used this one  and my kids have had countless hours of fun making chocolate, wax or clay armies!

Books:

Book sets like The Magic Tree House or Pete the Cat are family friendly and elementary school staples. So if you have a fan of a popular book series chances are your little guests will be too.  With the new Netflix Lemony Snicket series in the works, it’s an exciting time to be a book worm. Theming a birthday party around a book will spark your child’s imagination and ignite the reader within them. You can incorporate fun games like scavenger hunts and find a plethora of teacher printables online depending on the book.

Star Wars:

Star Wars was probably something that you grew up with and the force has awakened once more. With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story film being released later this year, these kids never had a chance. Most likely you have a star crazed padawan in your house who would go crazy to see all his Star Wars characters on their special day. An awesome tip: check out these personalized photos or videos on Fiverr where you can have really cool personalized items made all for $5. It’s 5 bucks well spent because the use of our personalized storm trooper photo for my son Evan was endless! In the photo below we picked up some market Star Wars themed cupcakes and just added these light saber toppers!

Junior Chefs:

Celebrity chefs are everywhere right now and with television shows like MasterChef Junior and Cupcake Wars kids are being driven into the kitchen to show off their skills and creativity. Serving pizza with an impressive display of DIY toppings can make every child at the party feel like a master chef! Add some inexpensive chef hats like these and you’ll have a cute photo like this one over at love the day by Lindi Haws!

TV Shows/Movies:

Zootopia, Finding Dory, The BFG, Moana and The Secret Life of Pets are the bigger blockbusters you’re going to see this year. Also, favorite TV Shows like Ever After High, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Descendants, Teen Titans, Amazing World of Gumball, Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and Sesame Street have plenty of party decor online in specialty shops like Etsy. You’ll also be able to find printables and other freebies through Disney and Nickelodeon websites. There’s so many creative tutorials like this one over at Moms and Munchkins that has a collection of TMNT ideas from different parties.

Batman vs. Superman:

There is an extensive list of superheroes that are no longer heroes that only comic readers know. They are extremely popular right now with mega blockbuster after mega blockbuster being released like the upcoming Batman vs. Superman. You can shop both sections of superheroes and create your own versus! However, whether your child is a fan of DC heroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman or Marvel superheroes like Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk or Captain America they can enjoy a mix of both like these stickers from Oriental Trading that are perfect for any super hero party.

Shopkins:

Chances are you’ve heard or seen of Shopkins whether you wanted to or not. They exploded on the scene and took the kids by storm with their adorable names and characteristics. They provoke imagination since you kind of have to have one to enjoy Shopkins play. There is already Shopkin themed board games that can be played at your party and any favors like these that showcase the multiple characters are always a hit!

NASA/Alien:

Astronaut Scott Kelly just got back to Earth, travel to Mars is now ‘doable’ somehow and gravitational waves have been detected. All of that, plus movies like The Martian and Interstellar it’s hard not to wonder about space exploration and life beyond our planet. NASA  parties can be unique and fun for every age. One way to capture that fun is by having kids make their own astronaut. We’ve used this white air clay for the suit with little to no mess. Get creative with things they can decorate their suit like we did with empty 50¢ toy machine containers.
